The Economist on what not to do in a downturn - cut customer service

"A danger is to cut labour costs in a way that damages customer service. That could be fatal at a time when retailers need to fight for each sale. The best retailers understand this. Best Buy has found that its “geek squad”, that helps customers in each of its stores work out how to use their new electronic appliances, has been a factor in its recent success." Link to article
